If you’re like most people I know, you will only buy pumpkins once a year, around this time, throw it out after Halloween, and forget about the fruit until next year. With a little creativity though, you can stretch the value of the often forgotten pumpkin.

Kids may be going to malls for Halloween these days, but the adults are partying more than ever, and the pumpkin, dressed up as the jack-o-lantern is as popular as ever. Unfortunately, after its one night of glory, it’s often thrown out until next year. Sad pumpkin. The pumpkin has so much more to offer though, with a little willingness to experiment!

Homemade Pumpkin Scrub & Mask

Ingredients:
½ cup of pumpkin puree
½ cup of brown sugar
optional: milk or honey

Make a pumpkin puree of about half a cup. To make the puree, simply take the leftover jack-o-lantern and cut them into small pieces. Then place it on a baking sheet, and throw it in the oven at 325 degrees F for about an hour. Once they’re soft enough, mush the meat into a puree. Mix the puree with half a cup of brown sugar, and you’ve got some good homemade scrub. Add a bit of milk or honey if you like.

This recipe is rich in vitamin A, vitamin C, and zinc, providing some antioxidant boost, and a hint of the sweet pumpkin scent–a perfectly natural, and easy to make skincare treat. You can also replace the brown sugar with honey to make a mask as well.

Pumpkin Pie:

Most pumpkin pies are made of a different type of squash than the ones you see on Halloween. Even the homemade pumpkins are often made from canned pumpkins. You don’t need to be boring though! The Halloween pumpkins are perfectly fine for the job, and here’s an excellent recipe for it: Homemade Fresh Pumpkin Pie
